Male Breast Reduction Surgery

You’ve probably already done a lot of research on your man boobs problem and now you are considering male breast reduction surgery. There are a lot of solutions to man boob problems but different options work for different people. For some men all it takes is diet and exercise. Others may need hormone therapy. Some men will require surgery to correct the condition.

Gynecomastia, commonly known as “man boobs”, is a condition that can affect men of any age. Don’t think you are uncommon. It can be embarrassing, even humiliating to the point of affecting all aspects of your normal life. It affects your self-confidence. It especially affects your social life as you try to avoid embarrassing situations. But it doesn’t have to permanent. The condition can be corrected by surgery.

The first step to having male breast reduction surgery will be to visit a plastic surgeon. Your own doctor can give you a referral. The surgeon will examine your chest and make a decision on the best procedure to correct your man boobs. He will also consider your general health.

One of the things the surgeon will have to determine is if you are an appropriate weight for surgery. If you haven’t already tried diet and exercise to get rid of man boobs he will recommend doing that first. Surgery is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle.

Your plastic surgeon will also advise you against lifestyle habits such as drinking alcohol or taking steroids. Both of these can be factors that lead to increased breast material in men.

Next the doctor will have to confirm your general state health before he can perform male breast reduction surgery. The surgery is itself is generally safe but like all medical procedures there is some risk of complications. The surgeon must be made aware of any other conditions you have that may increase the risk of complications during surgery or anaesthesia. Reducing you man boobs is important but the doctor cannot perform a procedure that may put your life at risk. You can expect a thorough physical examination, blood tests and possibly a mammogram to ensure there is no other disease at the root of your breast problem.

Once the surgeon is assured of your health he will explain the surgical procedure you require and make arrangements for your surgery. Any risks will be discussed and you should take this opportunity to ask questions on any concerns.  The procedure may vary for different patients but usually includes liposuction to remove excess fatty material, skin tightening and possibly repositioning of the nipples.

After the surgery you can expect a recovery time of one to three weeks. During this period you may have to wear a compression bandage and will need to be monitored for infection. Your doctor and the hospital staff will give you all of the information you need before leaving the hospital. Again ask any questions that come to mind.

Once your body has healed from your male breast reduction surgery you will be able to look in a mirror and take pride in your new masculine chest. You will start to become more self-confident and this will show in all aspects of your life. Start thinking about how it will feel to actually go to the beach and not feel ashamed, or to get undressed in front of your special partner. Don’t wait any longer, see your doctor and take the steps you need to change your life.
